Confessions of a Newbie Blogger: Part One

Stop Doubting, Start Creating

For the past six years I’ve worked in an office, surrounded by a small friendly team of people. From Monday to Friday I turned up to work and knew exactly what I was doing. Now fast forward to two months ago when I decided to run my blog and start my YouTube channel full time. A whole new world of uncertainty, many moments of ‘is this what I should be doing?’ and ‘oh god, I’ve got to do this all by myself now’.

It’s been a big change, one that I chose and am still happy I chose, but one that I’ve had to get my head around. I was driving back from my friend’s wedding at the weekend, thinking about life and where I was heading during my 3 hour journey. I was reliving my awkward answers from the night before when people asked me, ‘So, what do you do?’. I ended up mumbling something about what I used to do and that I had only just started doing the blogging thing full time. In the car home I cringed at these exchanges and wondered why I acted in that way? Is it because it isn’t regarded as a traditional job or was it because I needed to convince myself that it was my one?

I came to the conclusion (whilst stuck in another queue of summer holiday goers) that until I believed in what I was doing, why would anyone else pay attention? I know it sounds silly, but I felt like I had to go through those awkward, embarrassing answers to realise that I had to start believing in myself and not being scared of putting something out there. I also had to stop comparing myself to other people and give myself a chance. This path is genuinely something I’ve always wanted to do.

I wanted to share this post with you guys as I think it lends itself to any kind of situation that is new and different. A quote by Erada says, ‘If it’s both terrifying and amazing then you should definitely pursue it’ and that’s how I feel about starting this journey. Along with being dedicated and consistent with what I’m doing, I’ve got to push myself to make sure I make the most out of it. Even if I give it a go for 6 months and it doesn’t work out, I actually have to give it a go and put my all into it in order to try.

I hope this post might help someone who’s thinking about doing something different or new in their life, to be less scared about doing it; because what if you turned around years later and thought why didn’t I even try? I think you have to work hard to get the things you want in life and after a couple of months of self-doubt and anxiety I’m ready for anything this new path throws at me.

Sunday Favourites

Sunday Favourites2

This week has been a hot one in the UK! Nice weather always makes me want to go outside and cram as many things into the day as possible! Here are the things I’ve enjoyed this week:

Home Grown Hydrangeas– My mum’s garden is full of beautiful hydrangea at the minute! We had a little cutting spree and they are now cheering up our lounge!

Wedding Fun– This weekend one of my university friends got married. It was so awesome to catch up with old friends and make new ones too!

BoxPark Pop Up– These past couple of weeks we’ve been busy preparing for the Narrative Creators’ Pop Up shop. It opens at Box Park in Shoreditch this week! Steve, Ben, Adrian and Suli will be selling exclusive merchandise and hanging out from Tuesday! Definitely come down and say hi if you’re near!

Pizza Dates– We stumbled upon Voodoo Ray’s in Dalston last Saturday and enjoyed Pizza catch ups! Would definitely recommend!

Running Again– After spraining my ankle and not being able to run for 6 weeks it feels so good to be out again! I managed to get a couple of short runs in this week before it got too hot for the dogs. I run with a special running harness on Bai as she runs off when we go in the woods, also gives me an extra pull when I need it too! Snapped this when they were cooling off after!

Hope you had a great week!

Top 5 Instagram Accounts

LFK Top 5 Instagram accounts

As I mentioned in one of my recent videos my favourite social media app is Instagram. I love that it’s a place where people can share beautiful images of their travels, pretty things they’ve found or awesome style posts. I thought I’d share a few of my favourites:

1. Emilie Ristevski Emilie’s account gives me a serious case of wanderlust! I also love that all the portraits of herself are taken from behind her; so it’s almost like you’re following along on her travels too.

2. Design Sponge– This was one of the first blogs that I ever started reading. Their Instagram account is such a pretty curation of their posts with bonus dog photos added for free!

3. Geo Fleur– I’m a sucker for anything floral and what I love about this account is that it focuses on making plants look awesome. Like Geo Fleurs designs the shots are minimal, it’s almost as it they’re shooting the plants’ very own portraits!

4. Collage Vintage– If you’re looking for a style account to follow I would recommend this one. All of the photos are super fun and I love her sense of style.

5. Harlow & Sage– These three are still my favourites. You can’t go wrong with a cute dog photo when you’re having a bad day!

Scrolling through these profiles has definitely cheered up this recent rainy weather. These are only a fraction of my favourites so I’m sure there’ll be a part two!

What are your favourite Instagram accounts to follow?

Sunday Favourites

Sunday Favourites4

After being back in the UK for a few days I’ve spent a lot of time reminiscing about our time in LA over the last two weeks. Below are some of my favourite memories. Hope you guys have had a good couple of weeks too.

Egg Slut– Officially my favourite breakfast place in LA, it doesn’t look like much but this eggy jar of joy is so tasty!

Venice Beach Cycling– A chilled afternoon cycling on the beach is just what we needed to wind down after Vidcon. We cycled up to Santa Monica Pier; such an awesome way to explore the whole way all along Venice Beach.

Artwork around LA– I loved all of the murals on the buildings in LA but I found this little one on the pavement on La Brea Avenue.

Spontaneous Hotel Room Parties– The only thing I snapchatted that day from Vidcon was this photo of Steve and Dave, how funny are these tiny shot glass party cups?

Collaborating with Nicole aka Snow Babe– If you haven’t caught it already, Nicole Eddy and I created a little video, it was so much fun making it and so nice to spend time with Nicole as we don’t see each other very often!

Excited to be back and planning more adventures!

Post LA & Vidcon Thoughts

Through a haze of jet lag, multiple cups of coffee and blurry memories of last weekend, I’m back at my desk and reflecting on the week that’s just passed.

Steve and I feel really privileged to be in the position that we’re in. To be able to travel the world and document it as we go, definitely makes me savour this time in our lives, because who knows how long it will last.

We travelled out to LA a week before Vidcon to get onto the timezone, catch up with friends and create as much content as possible. We shared our Airbnb with Nicole, Ben and SP; we felt like a little family and got used to walking down to the beach for a morning coffee or sunset swim. When the day came to travel to Vidcon, we were still very much in that relaxed
